The OpenOutcast project was the second try of the Eternal Outcasts - team to create a fanmade sequel to Outcast. It was based on the Crystalspace engine. Although the game was never completed the biggest milestone reached was the release of the Gandha techdemo in February 2007. It contained two Regions (Ranzaar and Shamazaar). You could walk around and pick up some crystals. Three more techdemos were planned, but never completed. Due to the problem, that the team didn't have enough resources to develop a full scale game on their own in a free Engine without proper tools and editors, the team announced in December 2007 that the they will now use the Cryengine 2.
